We specialize in Orthodontics. Braces are used to assist in aligning and straightening teeth in order to not only improve appearance, but improve a person’s bite. Having braces isn’t just about improving your smile, but it’s also about improving your overall dental health. Orthodontics may be used to correct malocclusion, overbite, underbites, cross bites, deep bites, crooked teeth and other flaws of the teeth and jaws. Braces may be used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help with making corrections to a person’s bite.

Dental technology has improved over the years to include new options to help correct the above issues, and there are a number of techniques and products available that were not available just a few short years ago. The patient experience has improved and today’s options are less conspicuous than the full braces that were common in the past.

Your visit will begin with a consultation with the doctor to go over the best alternatives for your orthodontic care. Dr. Kim and Dr. Desai will address any questions you may have regarding your treatment and will provide a plan for orthodontic therapy.

Following the guidelines established by the American Association of Orthodontists, Dr. Kim and Dr. Desai recommend that every child see an orthodontist as early as age seven, or even earlier if a problem is discovered either by a parent or a family dentist.

No two orthodontic patients are alike, so there is no specific age defined as the best to begin treatment. Not always necessary, interceptive treatment will be recommended if deemed beneficial to your child. With early diagnosis and treatment, smaller problems can be corrected before becoming larger problems in need of more extensive treatment. Our goal for every patient is to reduce or eliminate treatment time in full braces and to provide the best results possible. Our initial exams are always complimentary in an attempt to assist patients in receiving treatment necessary for long lasting oral health.

Early Intervention:

Early intervention can offer a dramatic impact on establishing the proper occlusal foundation. By the age of 7, some of the permanent teeth have erupted, so that most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Visiting an orthodontist during this time allows our doctors to spot potential orthodontic problems related to jaw growth and eruption of adult teeth.

Adolescent Treatment:

Ideally, most orthodontic problems will be treated during this time. At this point, most or all permanent teeth have erupted and since patients are usually in their growing stage, this is a great time to correct most problems. Using orthodontic appliances together with the growth of the jaw, most problems can be fixed more quickly and efficiently during this time.

Adult Treatment

About 33% of our patients are adults, and we expect this trend to continue as more adults realize the value in improving the health and attractiveness of their smiles. Modern orthodontic treatment offers adults vast opportunity for improvement in their social, professional and personal lives.  There is no age limit when it comes to having a beautiful smile!

What is Insignia?

No one wants to admit they need eyeglasses. But when you visit an optometrist, you receive glasses prescribed just for you and your unique eyesight. You would not expect nor receive one-size-fits-all glasses.

Did you know that this isn’t the case with braces? Most braces are generic and don’t take into account the complexity of an individual’s particular needs.  Now, thanks to Insignia Advanced Smile Design, you get state-of-the-art treatment that’s 100% customized to your specific prescription.

With Insignia®, Dr. Kim and Dr. Desai use special software to create a customized treatment plan for each individual patient.  Insignia® helps give every patient an optimal occlusion and smile arc specifically proportioned to their unique facial features.

Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your orthodontist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.

Both removable and fixed PEDs can be used to address crowding and other issues by expanding the upper jaw to make more room to accommodate tooth and/or jaw alignment.

Once treatment is complete, a retainer is worn for a period of time, usually just at night. The retainer helps maintain the new smile and also allows for small adjustments, if needed, once the braces have been removed.
