Invisalign FAQs and Answers

Invisalign FAQs and Answers

Known as “the clear alternative to braces” since the ‘90s, Invisalign has recently become the treatment of choice for legions of orthodontists and patients. If you are considering Invisalign, you likely have several questions. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Invisalign.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign gently shifts your teeth with a series of clear, comfortable, medical grade aligners. We start with a 3-D digital model of your teeth, and morph it to custom design your aligners. You will wear each set for 20-22 hours per day for one week, or as instructed, and then change to the next set at home.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign lets you continue to live life as normal. The aligners are nearly invisible, so you will not have to worry about flashing a mouthful of metal. They are removable, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and continue your normal oral hygiene routine. There are no sharp pieces or rough edges to poke or scratch your mouth and tongue, and you only need to see us once every six to twelve weeks on average.

What are the drawbacks of Invisalign?

Invisalign Teen comes with six free aligners to guard against loss. Still, you must be disciplined enough to wear your aligners as directed and to change them at the right time for a beautiful result, but you’d be surprised as teens all over the nation are having great success with Invisalign!

Does Invisalign work with dental veneers?

Yes. If you don’t have veneers yet but are considering them, we recommend completing your Invisalign treatment first.

Can I use Invisalign with a dental bridge?

Yes, depending on the case. A dental bridge connects your teeth to each other, while Invisalign moves each tooth separately. We will assess your mouth and help you choose the right option for straightening your teeth.

Can I eat, drink, and chew gum if I have Invisalign?

There are no dietary restrictions with Invisalign as long as you remember to carefully clean your teeth and put your aligners back in when you finish.  We typically recommend patients to remove Invisalign while eating and brushing. Some patients have great success chewing sugar-fee gum with their aligners in!

Cost and Insurance Considerations for Parents

The cost of Invisalign varies due to many factors, but it is generally similar to braces. We provide extremely flexible payment plans and will provide a full breakdown of costs before we start treatment.

Dental insurance varies by plan. We will help you understand your insurance and your out of pocket costs before we begin.
