Invisalign vs Traditional Braces: Which is Right for You?

Invisalign vs Traditional Braces: Which is Right for You?

At Brace-Asaurus, we have placed quite a few sets of traditional metal braces. The treatment of choice for straightening teeth for decades, they still play a vital role in orthodontic care today. Increasingly, though, pre-teens, teens and adults are asking for Invisalign, billed as the “clear alternative to braces.” Unless there are unusual circumstances, both braces and Invisalign can work well to treat most orthodontic issues, leaving the decision up to you. Here are some factors to take into consideration when deciding which is right for you.

Treatment Planning

Extensive treatment planning is vital for both braces and Invisalign, but it looks very different for the two options. When planning for braces, we will show you the issues with your teeth and explain how the braces will correct those issues.

When planning for Invisalign, we will use sophisticated 3-D computer imaging to design a digital model of your current smile. We will then engineer the plastic aligners before they are manufactured to get you to a beautiful and healthy smile. You will change aligners at home, which means you can closely monitor your progress and reduce your number of orthodontic visits.

Ease of Use

Invisalign is very easy to use. We will place attachments on your teeth and show you how to take care of your aligners and wear rubber bands if needed. Beyond that, it is up to you to change aligners at home every week or as directed. You can remove your aligners to eat and drink, and to perform your normal oral hygiene routine. You will only need to see us for monitoring every six to twelve weeks.

Braces are different but also result in amazing smiles. We will place them, do your adjustments, and ultimately remove them. You, the patient and us are a team and to get the best outcomes, you will care for your teeth and braces, but beyond that, you will only need to worry about keeping your scheduled appointments and wearing rubber bands as instructed.

Comfort and Aesthetics

Invisalign aligners are smooth and comfortable. You might have some initial discomfort when the attachments are placed, and you may be able to feel your teeth shifting but very well tolerated. Our patients also love the ability to eat their normal diet and keep their teeth as clean as possible, not to mention the reduced number of visits to get an amazing result.

Cost Information

Invisalign and braces are priced about the same, and each case is different in terms of overall cost. We pride ourselves on not letting finances get in the way of having a beautiful smile and offer the most flexible payment options.

Our team will help you understand the details of your dental insurance plan and determine your out of pocket costs for both options.
