Stages of Orthodontic Treatment
Early intervention can offer a dramatic impact on establishing the proper occlusal foundation. By the age of 7, some of the permanent teeth have erupted, so that most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Visiting an orthodontist during this time allows our doctors to spot potential orthodontic problems related to jaw growth and eruption of adult teeth.
Ideally, most orthodontic problems will be treated during this time. At this point, most or all permanent teeth have erupted and since patients are usually in their growing stage, this is a great time to correct most problems. Using orthodontic appliances together with the growth of the jaw, most problems can be fixed more quickly and efficiently during this time.
About 33% of our patients are adults, and we expect this trend to continue as more adults realize the value in improving the health and attractiveness of their smiles. Modern orthodontic treatment offers adults vast opportunity for improvement in their social, professional and personal lives. There is no age limit when it comes to having a beautiful smile!
